The Coffee Process - Green Beans
Coffee beans arrive in the UK as green beans and they are bought to a specified quality.

Arabica coffee is sorted into a range of grades, from the very basic ‘roasters’ grade through to the very best. The grade is dictated by how many broken or blemished beans there are per sack and there is a 10 fold price difference from the basic to the best quality. The very best will have no defects in at all.

At Pollards we only buy the very best and we buy it in 50kg to 70kg sacks.

The first thing we do when the coffee arrives in our warehouse, is number each and every one to ensure complete traceability from grower to cup.

We also ask the growers to leave the ‘silver skin’ on the beans – it makes more work for us, but means a better flavour for you
